The Law Offices of Casey D. Conklin, PLC is comprised of an exceptionally talented team that are experienced in a wide variety of areas including, but not limited to, Business Law, Estate Planning, Employment Law, Family Law, and Civil Litigation. We are an expanding firm, and all are committed to providing superior quality legal representation to our clients.
Born and raised in Mid-Michigan, Casey attended Michigan State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Advertising. Casey worked for years in advertising, marketing, and business consultation before deciding to attend law school.
In 2013, Casey graduated Cum Laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School (now Western Michigan University Cooley Law School), with a concentration in Intellectual Property. While attending law school, Casey worked on various consumer protection projects with the Attorney General of Michigan, as well as interning for an East Lansing based law firm.
In 2014, Casey was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan, and is licensed to practice in the state of Michigan, is admitted to practice in the Michigan Federal Court of the Western District, and has been admitted to practice in the Colorado Federal Court, as well as the United States Tax Court. Since becoming licensed, Casey has been working as a solo practitioner in Michigan. Casey has worked in a wide variety of areas including Real Estate, Landlord/Tenant, Copyright, Contracts, Tax Issues, Business Organization, Wills and Trusts, Bar Exam Appeals, Collections, Construction Law, and Compliance. Recently, Casey has received a Certificate of Completion in the areas of probate and estate planning issued by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
Casey D. Conklin
Collin Nyeholt earned a Juris Doctor Cum Laude from Michigan State University College of Law in May of 2010. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Finance, and a Associate of Applied Arts in Music. Collin was admitted to the Bar on October 21, 2010.
Collin’s main concentration has been plaintiffs’ side litigation. His primary areas of practice are civil rights, employment, and consumer and commercial litigation. Collin has extensive experience litigating at the trial and appellate levels in both the state and federal courts against both private and public entities. He boasts, among other accomplishments, a $350,000 trial judgment in a Title VII Retaliation case against the State of Michigan that was upheld in a published decision by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also written, appeared on, and argued numerous cases in the Sixth Circuit and the Michigan Court of Appeals. He was a substantial contributor on a published decision that established State employees’ right to seek reinstatement to their positions if they are terminated for exercising intermittent FMLA leave in the Sixth Circuit. And, he has written several articles and comments for various publications.
Collin is admitted to practice before the Michigan Bar, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Ashley earned her Juris Doctorate from the Michigan State University College of Law in 2013. While in law school, Ashley completed the Trial Practice Institute program, participated in the International Moot Court program and nation-wide competition, and worked as a legal assistant at a private practice law firm.
One of Ashley’s passions is assisting clients with the formation of business entities and personal asset protection through effective estate planning. She believes in the importance of educating clients and members of the community about legal matters that affect both their business and personal assets and affairs. Ashley also represents clients in probate matters and complex probate, business, and real estate litigation. Ashley’s practice areas include business law, estate planning and probate, intellectual property matters (trademarks, service marks, and copyrights), tax matters, collections, construction law, and real estate law.
Ashley has a passion for helping people through her work and community service. She is a member of the Howell Rotary Club and serves on the planning committee for Tour de Livingston. Ashley is also a member of the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Joseph M. O'Connor
Joseph M. O’Connor was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1995. After successful careers in law enforcement, and the U.S. Army Reserves, Mr. O’Connor now practices law relying extensively on the experience garnished in his previous careers.
Operating in an “Of-Counsel” position with the Law Offices of Casey D. Conklin, PLC, Mr. O’Connor brings a unique perspective to the Firm through his knowledge base of criminal laws, including firearms, personal protection orders (PPO), felonies, misdemeanors, and traffic laws, as he was responsible for implementing the PPO policies for the Michigan State Police, as well as investigating criminal matters and numerous fatal/injury traffic accidents while assigned to the State Police Detroit Post.
Mr. O’Connor works with families and individuals that have sustained disabilities and are seeking Social Security Disability Benefits, as well as Veterans seeking Military Disability Benefits as a Certified Attorney with the Veteran’s Administration. Mr. O’Connor is well versed in Estate Planning Measures after handling the affairs of many clients, ensuring wishes and desires of the decedent are fulfilled upon his/her death through the proper use of documents including Wills, Trusts, and Powers of Attorney for Healthcare/Financial Matters.
Mr. O’Connor is knowledgeable about Foreclosure, Landlord/Tenant and Real Estate Matters having handled matters through the Appeals Process and drafting several types of documents including deeds on behalf of clients planning for life estates, marriages, divorces, and business arrangements.
Academically, Mr. O’Connor obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Detroit, and his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, with a minor in Sociology and Military Science (ROTC) from Eastern Michigan University. Mr. O’Connor has instructed courses in Paralegal Studies, Homeland Security, Criminal Justice, amongst other courses. Mr. O’Connor is also a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College and has taught ROTC courses at Michigan State University.
Elizabeth Johnson is the firm’s Executive Legal Assistant / Office Manager. Mrs. Johnson’s legal experience includes over thirty (30) years in various areas of law including criminal, civil, corporate, business, employment, bankruptcy, and medical malpractice. Mrs. Johnson is currently assisting the firm in the areas of civil litigation, estate planning, corporate, business and tax law. Additionally, she supervises support staff, coordinates/monitors activities within the firm, provides backup for the receptionist position and assists other attorneys as needed.
Executive Legal Assistant
Emily is the firm's paralegal. She is currently a law student at WMU- Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Emily goes to school part-time which allows her to gain practical work experience in the legal field. Working with the firm's attorneys is a great opportunity for her to further her career goals while she is finishing her education.
Emily holds a Bachelor degree of Business Administration in Sport, Event, and Promotion Management. She has prior work experience as a legal assistant, but she has also worked in the education and sports fields. Emily has not yet determined the type of law she would like to practice. However, she is eager to learn from the attorneys at the Law Offices of Casey D. Conklin and be introduced to all of their practice areas during the remainder of her time in law school.
